Turkey and Brussels sprouts may have a festive ring to them, but there’s no reason you can’t enjoy this dish throughout the fall and winter months. High in protein and low in carbs, it’s a satisfying meal on its own. However, we love serving it with a side of mashed or roasted potatoes for a comforting touch.
This dish also makes a fantastic addition to a Christmas dinner spread, pairing perfectly with other meat dishes and appetizers—especially if you’re looking for creative ways to include Brussels sprouts on the menu. The spices bring the flavors together beautifully, enhancing the dish without being overpowering.

Ingredients & How-to
To make this recipe of ground turkey and brussel sprouts, we are going to need ground turkey, olive oil, onion, garlic, brussel sprouts, carrot, cumin, sweet paprika, dried herbs, cinnamon, salt and ground pepper. You could add more or less spices depending to your family’s liking.
For full quantities check the recipe down below. So let’s get started!
01. To start, I’m preparing the vegetables. I dice the onion, grate the carrot, roughly chop the garlic cloves and set them aside. For the brussel sprouts, I lightly trim the bottom of the bud off and remove any damaged or yellow leaves.
02. Next, I cut them into quarters before rinsing. You can wash them under running water or soak them in a bowl of water with a tablespoon of vinegar for a few minutes, then rinse to remove any remaining soil and dirt.
03. I heat the skillet over medium-high heat and, once it’s hot, add the olive oil. I start by sautéing the chopped onion until it becomes tender and translucent. Cooking the onion for a few minutes before adding the other ingredients helps enhance its natural sweetness.
04. Then I add the chopped garlic and ground turkey. I break down the ground meat with a wooden spatula and leave it to brown for 6-8 minutes. The turkey will release its juices with the heat so we don’t need to add any water yet.
05. Before adding the rest of the veggies in, I like to add the spices. I’m using sweet paprika and cumin that compliment the turkey flavor, a little bit of cinnamon for sweetness and a teaspoon of dried herbs mix or Italian seasoning for extra flavor and aroma. I mix everything well and leave the spices with the ground turkey to cook for a couple minutes.
06. Finally, it’s time to add the grated carrot and brussel sprouts along with half a cup of water. I reduce the heat to medium and leave everything to cook for about 20 minutes or until the vegetables are tender and ground turkey is cooked.
Tips
- Sauteing the ground turkey and spices for a few minutes before adding the veggies will enhance the flavors.
- For extra flavor, you could add half a cup of broth instead of water.
- Grating the carrot, makes it quicker to cook but you could also dice it for more texture.
